We may be in lockdown, but Sydney’s burger scene is enjoying a renaissance – spiffy diners such as Bistrot 916 and Sixpenny are doing them, there’s DIY burger kits zooming across the city and delivery service Providoor’s menus are swarming with meat-and-bun combos. Now, another – very esteemed – eatery has joined the fray: Rockpool Bar & Grill.
Rockpool’s burgers aren’t just a lockdown sidestep until regular programming resumes. The fine diner is known for the burgs it serves on its all-day bar menu – they even spawned the Burger Project chain. During lockdown it’s doing two menu staples: a Wagyu burger, made with David Blackmore beef, bacon, gruyere and Zuni-style pickle. And the famed Rockpool cheeseburger with bacon and dill pickle.
The burgers will set you back $25 and come with fat-cut chips.

SIGN UPHow to get them? You’ve got to live (or work) within five kilometres (or the City of Sydney LGA). Head into Rockpool Bar & Grill on Thursdays and Fridays between 12pm and 2pm, order inside then wait out the front for collection.
If you’re not within Rockpool’s radius, you can still order from its home-delivered menu via Providoor. It’s not quite the same as a sitting in the restaurant’s dramatic marble dining room – but it’s pretty luxe all the same. Think whole roasted prawns, Cape Grim steaks, Oscietra caviar and Wagyu bolognaise.
Rockpool’s burgers are available 12pm–2pm every Thursday and Friday. Order at the restaurant only.
