A seafood spread is a staple of an Australian Christmas lunch, but getting your elbows out to score that perfect kilo of prawns can be stressful. One Sydney-based supplier is trying to make your Christmas feast stress-free by delivering seafood produce straight to you.

The Seafood Boutique is the online retail arm of AWC Seafood, an exporter of live seafood to the Asia Pacific region, including Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market. Closer to home, they also supply high-end Sydney restaurants Rockpool Bar & Grill and Sepia. This Christmas, for the first time, customers can access its stock of restaurant-quality Sydney rock oysters, cooked prawns, western rock lobsters and blue swimmer crabs.

The Seafood Boutique was co-founded by second-generation abalone diver Ryan Morris. “Having been in the fishing business for so long, I have all these direct fishermen contacts and I know the ones who provide the best of the best product,” he said in a statement.

While straight-to-your-door fruit and vegetable boxes are popular, seafood home delivery is less common. We think there’s only one other – Get Fish, the delivery arm of seafood giant De Costi, which launched last Christmas and offers more than 100 products.

This new service delivers to a wide metropolitan area (as far as Blaxland, Dural and Waterfall). Produce is placed in a sealed foam box with ice packs to keep your crustaceans fresh for up to 12 hours. If you prefer, you can pick your order up from its Botany facility.

A kilo of Queensland-caught tiger prawns will set you back $37.99, and the banquet box for six to 10 people is $455 – it contains two lobsters, four kilograms of cooked prawns, six blue swimmer crabs and three dozen oysters.

To get your order in time for December 25, make your online booking via the Seafood Boutique by December 18. Deliveries and pick ups available between December 22 and 24.
