Sydneysiders with a sweet tooth will soon have to strike 12-Micron off their dining to-do lists. The Barangaroo eatery, a fine-diner inspired by Australian flavours and known for its dedicated dessert bar, has changed hands and will close in October.
The venue opened in early 2017 with Justin Wise (Melbourne’s The Press Club and The Point at Albert Park) in the kitchen and Darren Purchese (Burch & Purchese, The Press Club, Bennelong) running the dessert bar. The two have not been involved with the business for more than a year – executive chef Daniel Corbett now mans the pans.
The venue’s owner, hospitality group Australian Venue Co (The Winery, Bungalow 8, The Rook), has sold 12-Micron to the Dockside Group, which trades in waterfront event venues. AVC’s CEO Paul Waterson said in a statement the decision was based on the company’s interest in pursuing more casual venues.
12-Micron’s menu took inspiration from Australia’s unique produce, flavours and culture. The star of the venue has become its 64-seat dessert bar, serving three, five and seven courses of sweets.
Reservations at the restaurant are being cancelled and relocated to other venues managed by AVC. Event and function bookings will be honoured by the Dockside Group.
AVC hasn’t yet confirmed 12-Micron’s final day of service, but a spokesperson has told Broadsheet it will close in the next two weeks.
