Opening this Wednesday is Redfern Continental, the new all-day venue from Brett Pritchard and Dave Jank, the team behind Redfern’s beloved Arcadia Liquors.
Redfern Continental will open as an espresso and brunch bar from 7.30am seven days a week, and will serve food and drinks throughout the day. Breakfasts will be simple, with toasted sandwiches and more substantial meals available at lunch and dinner. “It’s going to be European, but from no specific region or place,” says Jank. “It’s going to be a bit of everything; French, Italian, German and Swiss, because I’ve got some Swiss in me.” The menu will be put together by Kate Cooper, most recently of Almond Bar in Darlinghurst.
Pritchard has put together an impressive drinks selection. Think Arcadia Liquors, but with a carefully selected wine list tacked on for good measure. It features both iconic and new producers from Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Out the back is the cleverly named GDR, a bar that looks like a Politburo boardroom circa early 1980s East Germany. The back bar here is more fully stocked than out the front, so although you may be tempted to sneak in for a drink before dining, once you settle in to one of the comfy booths you may just decide to stay there instead.
