The first collection by Ella Maximillion, Ella Haines’ jewellery and accessories label, was called Moon Species. It featured her signature crystal embellished chokers.

Her second jewellery collection, Slide to Unlock, continues the Sydney designer’s love for all things sparkly and metallic. It is inspired by society’s fascination with technology. “Have you ever wondered what your iPhone is made of? I was excited to learn that the screens and microchips are made using quartz crystal,” Haines says. “Most of the technology we touch everyday uses quartz.”

Chunky silver hoop earrings studded with three large crystals are a standout from the collection. Oversized crystal watches, unisex ear and septum rings emblazoned with the word “girls” and pastel bags with chunky crystal handles also feature. The use of crystals continues on metallic chokers and sunglasses.

A new addition to the label’s repertoire is the Neckie, a detached turtleneck, available in pastel blue, pink and black with a chunky circular zipper. “The Neckie is a hybrid between cool ‘80s hip-hop sportswear and nerdy turtle necks,” Haines explains. “People thought I was crazy when I started making Neckies and then JW Anderson sent his models down the runway in something similar.”

Set to launch in early 2016, a fundraiser party will be held on Saturday October 17. The party will feature some of Sydney’s best DJs, including a Future Classic secret artist; free drinks; a Pitch Zine pop-up store; and Ella Maximillion giveaways.

The party will run from 2pm–9pm at Waywards, 324 King Street Newtown. Tickets are available here.
