It’s no secret that those colourful, fluffy earrings you’ve been seeing hanging from a hoard of trendy ladies’ ears all year are made by a local entity called POMS. Even better news is that POMS has collaborated with local eyewear label Pared on a range of sunglasses just in time for summer.
Adriana Guiffrida (POMS) and Sam Stevenson (Pared) met and became close friends while working at clothing manufacturer Bleach (encompassing Something Else and Ksubi). The designers then went their separate ways to kickstart their own labels, each taking a little something from their own respective backgrounds to inject into their accessories projects. But like with most creative friends, it was only a matter of time before a collaboration between the pair became a reality.
The result is POMS x Pared, an exquisite capsule collection of sunnies fit for lazy days on the beach, the lawn, in the park… you get the idea. The styles take inspiration from POMS ‘Bazaar’ SS14 collection, each paying homage to Turkish culture in their own unique way. There are two styles, ‘Turkish Delight’ and ‘Halva’, in two colourways each: black and red; and crystal lilac and groovy tortoiseshell.
“I think summer dressing doesn’t allow you to layer and go crazy, so sunglasses really make your outfit pop; they can be a real statement of personality,” says Guiffrida.
The oversized frames are perfect for shading eyes from those glaring down-under UV rays and also make a fresh contrast to the smaller silhouettes that have marked women’s sunnies in recent times. There are only 100 pairs available, available from both labels’ online stores.
