Since launching in 2009 on Crosby Street New York, and after expanding to Tokyo, men’s apparel label Saturdays NYC has just opened a new store in Bondi. The new location cements the label as an influential force in fashion.
The brand is synonymous with high-quality craftsmanship, a minimalist ethos and classic style. Originally created out of the team’s love for New York and surf culture, the brand has grown into a complete, well-curated menswear brand that emphasises colour, proportion and fit. Saturdays NYC’s current collection offers apparel, eyewear, accessories, footwear, outerwear, surfboards and its namesake publication.
Co-founders Morgan Collett, Colin Tunstall and Josh Rosen come from different backgrounds, but all share a parallel passion for New York’s combination of street culture, style and creativity, which are articulated in Saturdays NYC. This energy suits the Bondi landscape, making it the ideal place for Saturday NYC’s flagship Australian store.
“After traveling through Australia and visiting different areas, we had a particular affinity with Bondi. It just felt right as the first location for Saturdays,” says Tunstall.
Saturdays NYC’s combined retail-cafe experience has become the brand’s signature format, and is the same for the Bondi space. Local coffee roaster Artificer is working with Saturdays NYC to provide the perfect blend for the store.
The Bondi location shares the same minimalist aesthetic as the Manhattan and Tokyo locations. Akin Creative, led by Kelvin Ho, has incorporated blond wood and concrete into the design. Locally sourced timber and furniture are also integrated to support and complement the Saturdays NYC collection. The shop-front features a soaring four-metre-high glass and north-west aspect, allowing natural light to stream through the store while inviting the outside in. The 97-square-foot store is expected to settle into Bondi with ease.
