The Monocle Pop-Up Shop will run for four weeks at The Stables in Surry Hills. It coincides with Monocle founder and editor-in-chief Tyler Brûlé’s appearance at Vivid Sydney’s Game Changers talks series: conversations with global creative industries leaders.
The pop-up will launch several new collaborations including Monocle travel guides for London and New York, the June issue of the magazine and a variety of in-house designed products, such as stationery and brass ranges and a menswear collection, Monocle Voyage.
Last year Monocle named creative complex The Stables one of the top 25 retailers in the world, and the affection is mutual. Todd Williams, one-third of The Stables’ founding team, says: “[Monocle] is ever-changing and expanding, which is similar to us. We’ve always liked the idea of having a space to share a vision and resources with like-minded companies.”
For the duration of the pop-up, The Stables retail store will be styled by Monocle staff. Williams says they are looking forward to the Monocle influence over the next few weeks, “We've always followed them; they are definitely an inspiration to us aesthetically.”
Launched in 2007, Monocle magazine is published 10 times a year and features everything from global affairs and business to culture and design. Its print collection has grown each year since its inception and is now joined by seasonal publications The Forecast (focused on looking at the year ahead) and The Escapist, a summer magazine focused on travel (with a hefty dose of global affairs).
In 2013 Monocle collaborated with Berlin book publisher Gestalten on The Monocle Guide to Better Living and later, The Monocle Guide to Good Business.
The media brand has delved into radio with Monocle 24, a round-the-clock radio station and now its own retail channel, with shops in New York, London, Toronto, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.
The Monocle Pop-Up will run from Sunday May 24 to Sunday June 21.
