Manning Cartell’s most recent metamorphosis is here for a good time, not a long time. The label’s longstanding Strand Arcade store has closed its doors for a facelift and rather than embrace the chance for a break, they’ve popped up three doors down in a makeshift space. The apple never falls far from the tree, so they say.
In this instance, the apple is an open space with lofty ceilings and great light. It’s far more considered than the usual warehouse-style chaos of many pop-ups.
The racks that frame the space are packed with the current Varga Girls collection, past season stock and one-off pieces at up to 70 per cent off, presumably for the inconvenience of the pop-up experience. We would have paid a premium, but they don’t need to know that.
