Karla Spetic's creative zest seems to have no bounds – after the arrival of her sexy, effortless swimwear line KS Swim, she’s launching 2014 with the introduction of her very own knitwear label. Its name is IC (as in the last part of Spetic; pronounced “itch”). Made of 100 per cent cashmere, the label’s freshman collection 'Je T'aime Moi Non Plus' is a delicious sampling of Spetic’s signature brand of rebellious femininity – now knitted.

Inspired by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin’s infamously provocative duet of the same name, the collection is “really about lust, falling in love, being in love ... all that kind of wonderful stuff,” Spetic tells us. “I wanted the knitwear to be luxurious, but with a crazy twist!” The result is a range of knitted apparel that encapsulates all that sensual, seductive Serge and Jane whispering; lemon, citrus and baby-pink hues are juxtaposed against bolder, monochromatic pieces that contrast and complement in equal measure.

The collection plays with a host of trending elements: logos are prominent with bold, stencilled French expressions stamped across candy-coloured blocks of colour, and a comic-book kiss – reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein’s work – references pop art’s sharp edged parody of Western gender paradigms. A gorgeous array of jumpers, long cardigans, and even a loose knitted trouser round out the collection for those among us yearning for knitwear that rises above the muted staples that fashion inevitably offers up in the cooler seasons – with dropped shoulders, wide necks and relaxed silhouettes ensuring comfort is placed on par with form.

A squiggle pattern also features prominently, representing “electricity,” Karla explains – ‘kind of like sparks flying between two lovers.” And it’s a fair call to say that you may not need a lover to keep you warm now that IC is here to romance us.
