This season saw many of my favourite designers favouring the flourish. The Resort collection from Sydney-based Michael Lo Sordo was a riot of ruffles, with everything from his bralettes to stretch trousers given the frill treatment.

Ruffles play well in pairs, and the summer collections from Acler and By Johnny included frill-filled updates on the classic top and skirt pairing.

If the thought of head-to-toe ruffles feels too Elizabethan, take things slow by pairing a structured skirt, such as this flared style from Acler, with a relaxed tee or oversized sweater. The rolling frill sleeves of this open-back shirt from By Johnny would also be a love match with your favourite denims.

If you’re living in a slip dress this season, consider adding leaf-green ruffles with Kate Sylvester’s bias cut Brana dress.

When thinking footwear, clean lines work best to anchor the look. Try a white sneaker, such as this striped style from Scanlan Theodore, or Mimco’s pointed mules.
