Walk into Lennox St Co-op’s open warehouse and you’ll find a striking collection of homewares, textiles, fashion, furniture, paper goods and greenery. Presented by local fashion label, Rittenhouse, Lennox St Co-op is bringing together a fantastic collection of local makers and traders all under the one roof for a few months over summer.
The space has been curated by Rittenhouse co-founder, Sally McDonald, who says, “It’s an eclectic mix and everything is linked with love rather than a specific design.” Initially, it was the space on Lennox and Mary Streets that really inspired the final concept of the Co-op. “The round skylight that creates a moving natural spot light changes the focus and the looks of the site from hour to hour,” says McDonald.
It’s true that the mix of suppliers at Lennox St is eclectic, and it’s this variety that makes walking into the space such an alluring experience. Emma Rutherford of mindfully designed bed linen company Fictional Objects says, “It’s inspiring to share ideas and energy with other designers, curators and small-business-operators, instead of working in the isolation of our own creative bubble and product line.” Rutherford’s range of printed pillowcases, sheet sets and doona covers are available instore.

Unique jewellery from POMS, Stripes by Rosie Findlay and Elke Kramer are on display, intermingling with wood and metal terrariums by Melbourne-based botanical store, Miniscapes. Rittenhouse’s own collection of clothing, swimwear and footwear sit happily beside organically scented candles by Maison Balzac and limited edition textiles from L.O.T.S.
Mary Libro from Making Good shares Rutherford’s views on collaboration. “All of the makers at the Co-op tie in well with what we produce and the way we think, and yet our products are all quite different,” she says. The Co-op also features Making Good’s full collections of colouring books, notebooks and graphic printed tea towels.
“There are new co-operators arriving weekly which is adding to the fun,” says McDonald. Among these include florist Ruby Barber, who will be setting up another in-store pop-up just in time for Christmas, from which she will be crafting bespoke flower arrangements from December 19-22.
Lennox St Co-op will be occupying the warehouse space temporarily until the end of March 2014.
