A piece of furniture that makes a statement is often just the thing to turn a humdrum home into a cool, modern space with a bit of edge to it. This is why we love the new belt-strap mirror by from Gubi, available now at the designer furniture outlet Cult.

The circumference of the round mirror is lined with leather and the piece hangs by a leather strap. Available in brown or black leather and featuring brass detailing and hinges, it was originally designed by Frenchman Jacques Adnet in 1950 as part of an ongoing collaboration with Hermes, during which the designer/architect designed a collection of leather-covered furniture and interior accessories.

Adnet, who died in 1984, was known for his eye for all things modernist and art deco. He was particularly well known for his leather furniture designs, which have stood the test of time and somehow managed to still look modern and cutting-edge today.

The Adnet Collection, including the belt-strap mirror, is available from the Cult showroom in Sydney.
