Street Style: The Best From Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2022 – Part One
Words by Broadsheet · Updated on 13 May 2022 · Published on 12 May 2022
After months of relentless rain, Sydneysiders have mastered the art of dressing for grey, wet, will-it-be-humid-will-it-be-cold weather. And during a damp Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, Sydney’s most stylish have been turning it on, combating the moisture and grey with bursts of colour, deft layering and cut-outs showing off midriffs, shoulders and legs.
Some opted for flashes of red, blue and orange – a pant, a skirt or a bag – while others committed to head-to-toe crimson, cobalt and carrot-coloured get-ups. Monochromatic outfits were heightened with sculptural and slouchy shapes, eye-catching shoes and bags in multitudes of colours, shapes and sizes.
The black, grey, beige and brown colour palette favoured by attendees of last year’s shows continued to linger. Oversized coats, utilitarian trousers, and soft-and-slouchy beige and grey layering were recurring, hinting at a desire to put functionality and fashion on an equal plane after two years of Covid comfort-dressing.
Here are some of Broadsheet ’s favourite looks from the first few days of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2022.
