Street Style: The Best From Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2021

It’s been two years since the last Australian Fashion Week – and for its return the runways were back in full force, and so were Sydney’s most stylish, who didn’t shy away from the opportunity to dress up and peacock for the cameras.
Covid-era comfort dressing was given a zhush, with slouchy suiting, cosy knits, oversized jackets and coats, and clever layering underpinning the week’s off-runway looks. They were elevated with statement bags and chunky boots – though many fully embraced the understated ethos with sneakers and sandals (occasionally paired with socks).
Monochromatic and neutral palettes were prolific – think white-on-cream, black-on-white and brown-on-brown. In place of playing with colour, attendees toyed with luxe textures and materials. Soft-leather jackets were a hit, while light knits, crocodile-skin accessories and silk added dimension to conservative colour palettes.
The takeaway? In 2021, it’s all about comfort-dressing, understated luxury and the small details.
