As winter enters its end, the style set are naturally one step ahead, dishing up a taste of Spring Summer 2012/13 as the first of the new-season collections find their way into stores.

Open to the public, every look goes directly from the runway to the rack, making MBFFS Sydney’s democratic fashion week. The festival presents an epic nightly review of the best of Australian fashion week at 8.30pm. Stylist Kelvin Harries breaks down the key trends of the season through the designs of industry heavy weights including Ksubi, Akira, Alice McCall, Kirrily Johnston and Lisa Ho among countless others.

The schedule also features highlights from last month’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim event in Miami (Wednesday, 12.30pm), featuring local labels Suboo, Kooey Australia, White Sands and Lisa Blue.

Jennifer Hawkins is stripped to her smalls, hitting the runway for the show (Tuesday, 6pm) and then again next to Kris Smith for Myer (Thursday, 6pm), while US reality star-cum-fashionista Whitney Port returns to Sydney for the second time this year to introduce locals to her Whitney Eve and WE labels (Saturday, 6pm).

Meanwhile, Sportscraft (fresh from dressing the Australian Olympic team) and Oroton (showcasing the first ready-to-wear collection in the brand’s 75-plus-year history) are among the names holding individual collection shows.

All tickets include post-show access to schmooze and booze in the Festival Hub, while VIP tickets add primo seating, pre-show backstage tour, gift bag and admission to the VIP lounge.

The Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Sydney runs from August 21 to 25 at Sydney Town Hall.
