Since opening in 2011, The Standard Store has steadily garnered a loyal stable of Sydney’s most stylish shoppers. Tucked away at the Surry Hills end of Crown Street, the store is a beautiful, light-filled space, harbouring a combination of white walls and polished wood that perfectly complements its curated selection of fashion and accessories.
Owned by Nicola and Orlando Reindorf (the husband and wife team behind wholesale fashion distributors Flying Standard), The Standard Store serves as the ultimate showcase for a host of effortlessly cool UK and international labels. This week, The Standard Store is moving on up – quite literally – with the opening of its new upstairs space.
Getting into the spirit of the season, the team is kicking things off with the launch of the Raising the Standard Walk Up Christmas Shop, which will offer a thoughtful selection of beautifully crafted, gift-worthy goods. Among them, chic new season pieces from French label Sessun, bright cushions by London-based designer Zakee Shariff, fun Japanese bags and stationery, and a range of new Australiana-printed homewares and accessories by local brand Utopia Goods will be peppering the shelves and racks.
To add to the festivities, Dr Lisa Cooper (artist, florist and doctor of philosophy) will be creating a Christmas-themed window, while Nail Polish Addicts Anonymous will be setting up shop every Thursday and silly season weekend to plaster visitors’ nails with all manner of sequins, glitter, nail art and more.
The Raising the Standard Walk Up Christmas Shop is the first of what the Reindorfs hope will be many community-focused projects. Essentially, they hope the space can create a context for collaborations between creatives and local businesses, as well as a potential exhibition and installation space for local artists.
