Over the last 12 months, The Galeries has cemented itself as one of Sydney’s prime shopping destinations thanks to a raft of store openings from big-name local and international brands. PE Nation launched its first global flagship store, then luggage brand July opened its debut Sydney boutique just a few shopfronts down. Plus, Incu set up a dedicated accessories and footwear hub and, more recently, cult Copenhagen brand Ganni chose The Galeries as the location of its first Aussie boutique. Now joining The Galeries’ stellar line-up is Parisian label APC. Incu’s CEO Douglas Low, who’s had a years-long relationship with the brand and played a big part in the new store opening, says the location makes sense.

“We’ve had [Incu] stores in The Galeries now for close to 21 years so we’re very familiar with the centre, and love that visitors can spend half a day there visiting the bookstore, Kinokuniya, shopping with us and also grabbing a bite to eat,” Low tells Broadsheet.

It’s the second Sydney store for APC. The first opened almost a decade ago in Surry Hills. Eight years on, and the brand’s store designs continue to lean minimalist. Parisian architect Laurent Deroo – who is behind the look and feel of APC stores across the globe – teamed up with local designer Akin Atelier for The Galeries boutique. The brand’s signature light timber frames, concrete panels and big mirrors dominate the room. Each item has been carefully placed – the men’s and women’s collections are hung on racks in the centre, while the accessories are arranged on shelves by the windows. Stock is illuminated by beaming white lights. It’s simple, but there’s intention behind the set-up.

“It’s really important to us that each object is showcased correctly so customers can see all the details and attention that has gone into crafting each piece,” Low says.

The minimalist approach ensures a pleasing shopping experience that doesn’t overwhelm. Browse the latest men’s and women’s collections, as well as bags, leather goods and accessories, then head into the capacious change rooms, sectioned off with a heavy draped curtain, to try on your new pieces.

It’s been a big couple of months for Low and the Incu team, which was also part of the new Ganni store opening. They’re not slowing down anytime soon.

“The timing of the two stores [opening] was a coincidence, however, both stores complement each other so we’re happy to drive excitement in The Galeries around the new openings,” Low says.
