We all know the love-hate relationship that develops between aspiring horticulturists and disobedient houseplants. An extremely exasperated owner may even abandon his/her malnourished palm or succulent, and that’s where Preloved Roots comes in.
David Hannan, an avid conservationist, opened this Alexandria garden nursery intent on rescuing and re-selling plants from around Sydney that might usually be discarded. Preloved Roots’ employees undertake the challenge of resurrecting the near-dead plants, nursing them back to health before they are sold to new owners.
Taking donations from people who are moving house or simply can’t keep their plants alive, Preloved Roots is sustainable and thrifty, offering plants at much lower prices than commercial nurseries do. Some of the plants have even experienced their 15 minutes of fame when they were loaned to the set of The Great Gatsby.
A small glasshouse shelters the nursery’s diverse collection of succulents, bromeliads, ficus, seasonal herbs and preloved pots. If these plants were neglected in their youth, Preloved Roots has provided them with enough TLC to make them a well-adjusted addition to your house or garden plant family.
