Crème de la crème means the best of the best. And that’s exactly what Maison Balzac’s new hand and body cream is: a rich and indulgent addition to the bedside table or handbag. Combining natural ingredients such as aloe vera, macadamia oil and beeswax, La Crème de la Crème is a pared-back, sophisticated ode to the finer things in life.

“Body products are a natural progression from our home range,” Elise Pioch, founder of Maison Balzac tells us. “We aim to create products that make you feel good at home; lighting a candle and indulging in a hand cream before you read a magazine on your sofa is part of the Maison Balzac experience.”

Nine months in the works – “it’s like having a second child!” Pioch laughs – the major concern for Pioch was that the packaging equaled the ingredients in quality and style. After finding the “perfect product developer”, Pioch left them with her dream brief and focused on refining the presentation. “My mum always had a bright blue Nivea pot in her bag so I wanted to pay homage to that,” Pioch says. “I also find it’s more practical and durable to have a jar than a tube!” Not to mention glamorous. Much like the brand’s celebrated range of candles, the sleek, monochromatic packaging is a true eye-catcher because of its elegance and simplicity.

Bucking the hand-cream trend, La Crème de la Crème does not have any added perfume. It has a natural, clean scent that comes from its inherently perfumed ingredients, like the beeswax and the macadamia oil. Next up for Maison Balzac this year is a duo of scented hand creams, two new candle varieties, a hand wash, and a “surprise product that will sit beautifully in every stylish kitchen,” Pioch says. Needless to say, when it comes to Maison Balzac it is sure to be the best of the best.
