Creative talent Kit Willow is set to release her latest fashion collection, with Willow’s Resort 13 range presented earlier this week as part of London’s Resort Week. The forthcoming collection pays homage to her Australian roots, whilst keeping to her signature skill of utilising flawless drapery. The theme of the Resort 13 collection (title Surface Elements) sees the beautiful juxtaposition of humans and animals, set against architectural and animal skin surfaces.
Willow has integrated crocodile skin in her signature style. Although certainly not a new material to the fashion industry, Willow’s use of the material has inspired form, print and textures in the collection, with the tough durability of crocodile skin deconstructed via drapery to create soft fluting in some of the garments, highlighting Willow’s knack for uniting the soft and hard in her work. Weathered architectural surfaces are also meticulously studied and recreated in the form of crushed, painted linen, as well as metallic foiling. The unlikely marriage of these two influences stems from their surface qualities, revealing natural forms and textures.
Surface Elements was shot by a team of international fashion experts – including styling by ex-French Vogue editor Melanie Utzmann Huynh – and will be landing in stores from this September. Get ready to be exposed to the elements.
