It’s hard to find a garment in any wardrobe quite as easy to wear as the unassuming T-shirt. Slapping a graphic or slogan onto the humble tee is arguably even easier, though taking an ordinary T-shirt from a blank canvas to an iconic statement is a different story, with countless designs emblazoned across cotton-covered chests everywhere you look. There are innumerable corny, ironic, funny, rude, colourful, geometric, nonsensical, clever, overpriced, badly drawn and badly cut T-shirts on the market – particularly in the graphic T-shirt arena.

Enter Cloth & Resin. They've been whipping up round-neck tees with original designs alongside another basic wardrobe essential, the raglan, since the tail end of 2011. Hailing from the northern beaches of Sydney, this independent label was born without a business plan or budget – under the influence of surfing, music and art – and was fuelled by the simple pleasure of creating something that people would enjoy wearing.

A locally designed and printed endeavour, Cloth & Resin can take designs from concept to finished garment in around three weeks. And better still, even with their super quick turnaround, the team are dedicated to producing products that come with an environmental conscience, made under humane and ethical working conditions. Designs are printed with water-based inks on wonderfully soft, pre-shrunk cotton, giving the T-shirts a vintage, worn-in feel.

With plans to expand into limited edition runs of board shorts, Cloth & Resin is a homegrown label worth buying into.
