Drawing on a penchant for innovative design practice and perhaps a touch of madness, childhood friends Nikki Valmobida and Marco Meneguzzi have come together to share their range of chic canvas totes.

Australian born and bred, Valmorbida has spent years working with premier names in the American fashion industry, including Carine Roitfeld (editor of French Vogue for a decade) and Serge Azria (Equipment, Current Elliot, Joie, part owner of BCBG and Herve Leger). The 31-year-old designer’s closest mentor, Diane Von Furstenberg, was responsible for conceiving the iconic wrap dress in 1974 and pioneering a new movement in fashion with her signature prints. This iron lady has passed precious gems of wisdom onto our Aussie girl, who has returned home to deliver us a classic carryall.

“New York was a life changing experience,” says Valmorbida. “I got thrown into the deep end, which forced me to learn and progress quickly.

“After 10 years in the industry, I’m excited to finally start my own business with my best childhood friend.”

While Valmorbida was busy taking a serious bite out of the Big Apple, Meneguzzi was mastering the art of interior design. His work features in some of the most prestigious houses in Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles, and his inspiration is derived from his extensive travels. And that goes for his move into fashion too.

“Where ever I am in the world, visuals and influences add layers to my constantly evolving design references,” says Meneguzzi. “These bags are strongly influenced by current design trends, especially out of Belgium, which embrace fluid and organic designs based around simplicity. I feel that this relaxed elegance indeed compliments our Australian lifestyles.”

These unstructured leather and canvas creations were founded out of a small salon in the Hamptons and are simple, unassuming (but not underwhelming), practical and of course tres chic. They come in a range of neutral and bright colours, including stone, khaki, navy, orange, pink, lilac and yellow. The best part is, this particular modern carryall can be folded away into a multipurpose canvas sleeve; a perfect place to store your iPad or to simply stuff your towel before hitting the beach.

With a new line in production (including satchels) to come very soon, M & M Sydney has tote-ally arrived.
