Shopping Spree: This Season’s Best New Sydney Store Openings

Across fashion and lifestyle, there’s been an exciting crop of new stores opening in Sydney. In particular, Paddington and Bondi have recently welcomed a few additions to their streets, from jewellery label Temple of the Sun to bedding brand Sheet Society. Bookmark these new brick-and-mortar stores for your next shopping trip.

Moncler Sydney

Moncler’s new flagship is not for the faint of heart. This is the French luxury brand’s largest store in Sydney yet, with its menswear, womenswear and kids clothes all stocked in their own distinct zones. Design studio Gilles and Boissier are behind the ultra luxe fit-out. At its entrance, bold marble floors and a sculpture by French artist Thierry Martenon welcome visitors. Moncler, with its roots in technical outdoor gear, has become known for its ready-to-wear, casual-chic contemporary pieces.

Rationale Bondi

It’s clear Australians can’t get enough of local skincare label Rationale. The 33-year-old brand is loved for its radiance-enhancing efficacy. Founded by cosmetic chemist Richard Parker (who now works as its director of research), Rationale has grown to 15 stores around Australia. This newest one can be found in Bondi Junction’s newly renovated beauty floor, where its products and facials will be on offer.

Sheet Society Bondi

Beloved bedding brand Sheet Society has opened its first store in Sydney. Those with a penchant for colourful, comfortable sleepwear and bedding will now be able to touch (or lie on; we won’t judge) its sheets in person. Its new home in Bondi Junction is all brut concrete offset with curved, pastel fittings and the brand’s signature butter-soft textiles.

Maison Essentiele Darlinghurst

Fashion label Maison Essentiele has opened up shop in Sydney’s inner east. More a showroom than a typical storefront, the sleepwear-turned-womenswear label’s space is only open for four hours a week. The intimate interior was inspired by founder Olivia Koennecke’s recent overseas trips. “During my travels, I fell in love with those hybrid retail spaces – the kind of concept stores where you not only shop, but also slow down and experience the brand’s lifestyle,” she says.

Sabo Bondi

Brisbane label Sabo has opened the doors on its first Sydney outpost. The Mediterranean-inspired resort wear label is in its 14th year of operation and boasts Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, and Bella and Gigi Hadid among its fans. “[Sydney] is where most of our Australian followers are based,” says co-founder Yiota Kouzoukas. “As an Australian fashion label with a deep connection to resort wear and coastal living, Bondi’s iconic beach culture aligns perfectly with who we are.”

No. 22 Paddington

Tableware brand No. 22’s philosophy is grounded in creating “statement homewares for the modern home”. As dinner party enthusiasts, we can’t help but get behind this message. Temple of the Sun Paddington

Temple of the Sun is a jewellery label with history at its heart. Founded by couple Yonna Derofe and Darren Gallant, the brand has always looked to ancient mythology and symbols for inspiration. When creating the label’s first Sydney store, the pair were drawn to the aesthetic of Istanbul’s Basilica Cistern, an underground water reservoir from the sixth century. The moody grandiosity of the ancient site is fitting – Temple of the Sun makes its 24-carat gold heritage collection in Istanbul, which is where Derofe grew up.

Zero Meaning Bondi

Zero Meaning is the new kid on the block. The label launched in April and cut the ribbon on its physical shop in Bondi. The local unisex, ready-to-wear brand makes its pieces in Spain, with finishing completed in Italy and Australia. Its streetwear-focused wardrobe essentials are equal parts comfortable and timeless.

Loewe Westfield Sydney

Spanish luxury house Loewe has opened a second Sydney boutique, this one on the third level of Westfield Sydney. The spacious standalone store houses a selection of its womenswear, menswear, accessories and homewares. Come for the pieces, but stay for the furnishings. There’s Gerrit Thomas Rietveld’s Utrecht armchairs, Isamu Noguchi’s Akira light sculptures and South African artist Hylton Nel’s ceramic vases – it’s more like visiting an art gallery than a store.

Zoë Alexandria Engadine

Zoë Richardson, the founder of Zoë Alexandria, makes jewellery that is deeply treasured by its wearers, so her first physical store has been long overdue. “I’m excited to finally have a permanent location … It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” she says. Here, you can peruse her range of signature organic, sandcast jewellery. Services like the jewellery recycling initiative (bring in preloved jewellery to be transformed into something one-of-a-kind), permanent jewellery welding and bespoke jewellery consultations are also available.

House of Khirzad Paddington

A decade ago, Afghanistan-born designer Nilofar Khirzad started her luxury menswear label Khirzad. Half a decade later, she launched womenswear arm Khirzad Femme. Now, Khirzad has opened its first store in Sydney under the banner House of Khirzad. The design of the shop reflects Khirzad’s maximalist and opulent aesthetic. Expect a bespoke experience when browsing the bold menswear and womenswear here.
