If ‘effortlessly cool’ is the name of Bassike’s game, then consistency must be their winning strategy. Hot off the back of their Spring Summer 2012 look book (cue glowing praise and quivering purse strings), the cult label has just released a sleek and punchy accompanying film.
Models Ollie Henderson and Nelson Groom stride their way around a deserted Art Gallery of New South Wales to a Nicholas Jaar rework of Always By Your Side by Sneaky Sound System, pausing to accentuate the building’s stark, minimalist design and the clothes themselves. Directed by Sydney photographer and filmmaker Beau Grealy, the film echoes the crisp simplicity of the Spring Summer 2012 range.
The collection plays on disproportionate silhouettes and the sporty trend, matching flared shorts and A-line skirts with oversized sweaters and linen tuxedo jackets in an exploration of texture and shape. Bassike’s staple emphasis on neutral tones is punctuated with jolts of buttercup yellow, sweet pink and lime green, acting as a wake-up call in the lead-up to the warmer months. Buttery leather and luxurious linen top everything off.
