Weekend Asado at Porteno
Porteño is throwing an Argentinian barbeque (asado) bash on July 28. The traditional barbeque will be one of the last events held in the restaurant’s original Cleveland Street building (it moved to Holt Street in 2016; the Cleveland Street building is now used for functions) before it closes in 2020.
Expect a progression of barbequed meats: the lunch will start with meats that are cooked quickly over hot coals, building up to those that have been slowly cooking throughout the day. Matching wines have been chosen by the crew behind Jed Wines, an Australian-run Argentinian winery. Its founders have picked a selection of Argentinian drops from wineries stretching from Mendoza in the north of the country to Patagonia in the south.
