Video Killed the Radio Star: Hope St Radio x Paramount House Hotel

Thu 20th October, 2022 – Fri 21st October, 2022
80 Commonwealth Street Surry Hills 2010
The very cool Melbourne wine bar will bring its brand of good times to Sydney for two nights – think natural wines, souped-up snacks, fresh pastas, a focaccia that’s got a cult following, art and DJs. There’s a dinner party, a lobby bar and a free subterranean afterparty with lots of music.

There aren’t many places in Melbourne that are more fun to have a drink, eat some tasty snacks and listen to music, as Hope St Radio is right now.

The trendsetting wine bar opened in Melbourne’s massive Collingwood Yards arts precinct last year when the founder of the well-loved indie radio station, Pete Baxter, joined forces with head chef Ellie Bouhadana and wine expert Jack Shaw (who is now a co-owner with Baxter).

It became an instant success because it’s such a unique, vibe-y spot to hang out - partly because the digital radio is broadcast from a long communal table in the corner of the bar and punters can mingle with the DJs. Add in enjoyable cocktail creations and interesting natural wines, and Bouhadana’s food – think souped-up snacks, fresh pastas and a focaccia that’s got a cult following – and you’ve got a place like nowhere else.

The Hope St Radio crew will be bringing their brand of good times to Sydney for a one-off residency at Paramount House Hotel in October. Called Video Killed the Radio Star, it’ll comprise three events, beginning with a dinner party on Thursday October 20 in Paramount’s lobby, where Bouhadana will serve a seasonal degustation alongside a natural wine pairing by Shaw, and live music by Tangela & Bobby Vibe Positive!.

On Friday night, Paramount’s lobby will then become Ellie's Lobby Crostini Bar and an opportunity for you to try Bouhadana’s cult-fave focaccia – soft, chewy, pillowy, salty and oily, all the good things kneaded in one. The no-bookings event will also feature more of her dishes, spritzes and paired wine, with DJ Ivy providing the soundtrack.

The other free-entry, walk-in event is also on Friday night in another Paramount space: the Golden Age Cinema and Bar. It’ll be happening across the subterranean cinema and bar, so you’ll be able to catch a short film Mirrigan, which will be played on a loop throughout the night, then head to the bar for DJ sets by Gunai/Kurnai and Yorta Yorta artist and producer DJ PGZ, Mirasia and C Frim.

Paramount is offering punters a dinner-and-stay package on the Thursday night so you can enthusiastically eat and imbibe then retreat to your room without any travel hassles. (You can also get a discount on the Friday night if you stay for two days).

Video Killed the Radio Star kicks off on Thursday October 20 with the PHH x Hope St Radio dinner party at 7.30.pm The Ellie's Lobby Crostini Bar is on Friday October 21 and doesn’t require bookings. The Golden Age After Party is free and on Friday 21st. Book here.
