It’s a jam-packed season for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra with 54 different performances programmed. From cinema scores to symphonies, there’s a lot to love.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is back with another ambitious season. Long-loved classics and rarely performed pieces will sit alongside contemporary compositions as the full-sized orchestra’s refrains fill the Opera House sails.

Opening the season is Song of the Earth, which will be conducted by Simone Young with accompanying vocals from Simon O’Neill and Alexandra Ionis. The Opera House’s grand organ will roar to life in Saint-Saens Organ Symphony alongside visiting young violinist María Dueñas. Other highlights include Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony led by guest conductor Sir Donald Runnicles; a performance from Lucas and Arthur Jussen, Dutch brothers known for their extraordinary synchronicity on the piano; and a performance of Songs of the Auvergne with soprano Ying Fang.

Young cello virtuoso Sheku Kanneh-Mason, who performed at Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding, is performing between July 30 and August 1. Kalkadunga instrumentalist William Barton will sing and play his yidaki (didgeridoo) alongside his partner Véronique Serret, his mother Aunty Delmae Barton and the SSO at the City Recital Hall on June 4.

Kids are also catered for with classical favourite Carnival of the Animals, plus How to Train Your Dragon 2, which will see the SSO play John Powell’s score alongside the film.

The full program is available online.
