Sydney Dance Company: Twofold at Roslyn Packer Theatre
This September, don’t miss two captivating performances at Sydney Dance Company’s Roslyn Packer Theatre. From September 18 to 28, Sydney Dance Company artistic director Rafael Bonachela’s critically acclaimed Impermanence returns to the stage, alongside the world premiere of Melanie Lane’s Love Lock.
Having premiered in 2021, Impermanence is an exploration of beauty and devastation, drawing from the tragedies of the 2019–20 Australian bushfires and the 2019 Notre Dame fire in Paris. With a score by the National’s Grammy Award-winning composer Bryce Dessner, and co-commissioned by the Australian String Quartet, each performance of Impermanence features a live score by either the Australian String Quartet or the Partridge String Quartet.
The second work on the bill is the world premiere of Love Lock by the prolific Australian Javanese choreographer and performer Melanie Lane. Reimagining folk dance in the future, Love Lock draws on the collective experiences of diverse cultures in an ever-evolving world. It also features costume design bursting with texture and colour, brought to life by renowned Australian fashion designer Akira Isogawa, and music by revered UK electronic artist Clark.
Tickets are on sale now, with discounted tickets for Sydney Dance Company subscribers. An audio-described performance and tactile tour is also available on Saturday September 28.
