Book NowThis spring, Sydney Dance Company presents Continuum – a monumental new triple bill at Roslyn Packer Theatre bringing together the artistry of choreographers Stephen Page AO, Rafael Bonachela and Tra Mi Dinh. Running from October 22 to November 1, Continuum considers the spectrum of human experience and the transcendent force of nature, from the elemental to the ethereal.
Marking his much-anticipated return to the company where his career began more than 30 years ago, former Bangarra artistic director Stephen Page, a descendant of the Nunukul people and the Munaldjali clan of the Yugambeh nation, premieres Unungkati Yantatja – one with the other in collaboration with celebrated composer and yidaki player William Barton (yidaki is the Yolngu word for didgeridoo). The piece is co-presented by cutting-edge chamber music group the Omega Ensemble, who will join Barton and Sydney Dance Company dancers onstage to perform this powerful work evoking land, sea, sky and spirit.
In Spell, Sydney Dance Company artistic director Bonachela channels his signature precision into five distinctive “spells” – worlds of movement conjured with music by Ólafur Arnalds, Bryce Dessner and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Developed during a residency at Italian performing arts foundation Orsolina28, this world premiere is set to be an intoxicating collision of dance, light and sound.
Finally, Somewhere between ten and fourteen is a reimagined work by rising choreographer Tra Mi Dinh, which considers the fragile space between dusk and dawn. With hypnotic rhythms and shifting light, it captures the fleeting beauty of transformation.
Tickets are on sale now, with discounted tickets for Sydney Dance Company subscribers. An audio-described performance and tactile tour is also available on Saturday November 1.
