More than 90 Australian and international galleries gather at the annual art fair for collectors, art lovers and those who are simply modern-art curious.

Sydney Contemporary, now in its fifth year, is Australia’s premier art fair and its largest gathering of galleries from here and abroad.

More than 90 Australian and international galleries – including from France, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the UK and America – are participating in the 2019 edition, which is happening at Carriageworks in September.

The four-day fair showcases works by 450-plus emerging and established artists from more than 34 countries. This year, Japanese galleries will feature prominently including the returning Whitestone Gallery, which will be presenting work by renowned contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama.

Sydney galleries on the line-up include Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, APY Gallery and Sullivan+Strumpf. Melbourne’s Alcaston Gallery, Station, and Tolarno Galleries will also be represented.

The 2018 fair attracted thousands of collectors and art lovers, and the participating artists received around $10 million in sales.

The fair opens Thursday September 12 from 5pm to 9pm.
