Elizabeth Hewson has slowly been building a movement. Right across the country, people have been taking to social media to upload photos of themselves making pasta and adding the SNP hashtag.
It began more than three years ago when the Sydneysider found the usual things she used to help herself cope – such as yoga and exercise – weren’t working. She poured herself a glas of wine, turned on some Frank Sinatra and started to knead, channeling “the unadulterated anger of another horrible, demoralising week into pasta dough.”
And Saturday Night Pasta was born. A book followed, as did merch, and people began joining the SNP movement.
Over the last couple of months, she’s been curating and releasing SNP Self-Care Packs, with self-care in the form of pasta, cheese and bread. (In other words – the good stuff.)
This week’s pack – for delivery on Saturday September 18 – has all the makings of a delicious chilli vongole pasta. There’s freshly made linguine, 750 grams of live vongole from Coffin Bay in SA, fermented chilli butter (inspired by a pizza from Bella Brutta), garlic, a lemon and a bunch of parsley from Galluzzo – you’ll just need salt, pepper, olive oil and a bit of white wine.
There’s also a roasted cherry tomato and garlic focaccia to mop up that zesty sauce care of top bakery Pioik in Pyrmont. For dessert? Whatever you want – you’ll get a jar of dulce de leche care of Messina to drizzle on top. The pack also includes a sample of Grown Alchemist orange and vanilla hand cream, and you can add on wines from Drnks.
The pack costs $90 with free contactless pick-up in Erskineville. Delivery is available for $15 to select Sydney suburbs (check here) or $25 to southwest Sydney.
