To celebrate World Whisky Day (May 19), boutique soda purveyor PS40 is collaborating with Glenfiddich to release a limited run of bespoke sodas tailored to pair perfectly with three whiskies from the Glenfiddich range.
Though you can’t go wrong with drinking it neat, the whisky highball is an ideal way to complement the spirit’s complex flavours. From May 19 to 25 the boundary-pushing Sydney soda maker will serve two carefully mixed drinks using Glenfiddich’s innovative Experimental Series, and one celebrating the classic Glenfiddich 12.
The Experimental Series is a bold move for Glenfiddich and stretches the boundaries of what whisky can be. Its #1 Experiment IPA is aged in oak barrels used to brew Indian pale ale beer for a distinctive, zesty and hoppy note. The #2 Experiment, Project XX (pronounced “twenty”), is a whisky workshopped by 20 of Glenfiddich’s finest whisky experts and specially blended by Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s master distiller to feature flavours such as summer fruits and fairy floss.
PS40’s Michael Chiem and Thor Bergquist have created three sodas to pair with three expressions of the Glenfiddich range. The Hop + Skip & Jump combines blood orange, coriander stem and vanilla with the Glenfiddich IPA; Call Me By My Name is made with grapefruit, gentian and honey to complement Project XX; and Smoke on the Water adds lemon and ironbark to the complex notes of Glenfiddich 12. Each will be released for World Whisky Day with a special label to mark the occasion.
“They’re leaders of the pack in terms of experimentation,” says Glenfiddich ambassador, Luke Sanderson of PS40. “I haven’t seen anyone take to that side of the beverage world in Australasia with the inventive focus they have. Together with Glenfiddich, the idea to bring these experimental drinks together for World Whisky Day seemed like an opportunity too good to pass up.”
While Sydneysiders sample each cocktail at the PS40 bar on King Street, other Australian cities won’t miss out on these short-run sodas.
The PS40 Glenfiddich collaboration serves are available for one week only from May 19 until May 25.
