Pilu x Ormeggio: The Great Northern Beaches Rivalry Dinner
Every year, Giovanni Pilu of Pilu at Freshwater and Alessandro Pavoni of Ormeggio at the Spit go head to head for a winter showdown of Italian food with beachside flair – and they’re not letting lockdown get in the way of their friendly rivalry.
The two chefs are going head to head in a dinner box designed to be enjoyed at home, filled with dishes and drinks from both restaurants.
It starts with pane carasau or toasted flatbread from Pilu with ricotta and abbamele (a thick Sardinian honey), followed by Pilu’s carlofortina, or spaghetti with yellowfin tuna; Ormeggio’s lobster spaghetti; Pilu’s Angus beef eye fillet with bottarga butter (sides are brussel sprouts and pancetta); and for dessert, an Amalfi lemon gelato from Ormeggio. Both venues have also come up with their own takes on the Negroni.
The $400 dinner pack serves two. Available for pick-up from Pilu at Freshwater or delivery to nearby suburbs for a $20 fee.
