New Breed at Carriageworks

New Breed is Sydney Dance Company (SDC)’s annual showcase of new choreographic talent. The annual event gives the floor to four emerging choreographers who will debut their works, with each piece performed by SDC’s dancers.

This year’s program includes Amber McCartney, a Melbourne-based dancer and choreographer, whose practice incorporates prosthetics and practical special effects to create augmented bodies, ruptured rhythms and uncomfortable situations. SDC dancer Dean Elliott will also make his choreographic debut, as will Siobhan McKenna, who was awarded Melbourne Fringe Festival’s Best Dance Award in 2017. Piran Scott, a former soloist at the Ballet Theater Basel in Switzerland, will present his second choreographic work, having previously choreographed dances for St Gallen Dance Company’s RAW season in 2022.
