New Annual Festival in Newcastle
From September 23 to October 2, New Annual will showcase innovative visual art and live performance by local and visiting creatives in Newcastle.
You’ll be able to catch the hit multi-sensory experience, Van Gogh Alive (Sept 21–Oct 23), where visitors are immersed in the world and works of the revered post-Impressionist artist brought to life through mesmerising large-scale projections.
There’s also Colossus, a contemporary dance performance created by internationally renowned Australian choreographer Stephanie Lake, which sees a cast of 55 performing as one while exploring the relationship between the individual and the collective, and Titan Arum, a "carnivalesque biosphere of its own logic," by Justin Shoulder, where guests are invited to enter a hyperreal nexus of craft, puppetry, queer clubland, dance, light and sound.
New Annual is all about creative experiences, connections, and exploration. Given the inaugural festival in 2021 attracted more than 30,000 people, its second iteration is bound to be well worth the trip.
