Browse 50 stalls selling art, textiles, jewellery and ceramics by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander makers. Plus, see traditional dances, join a weaving circle and watch cooking demonstrations at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

The annual National Indigenous Art Fair returns to the Overseas Passenger Terminal in the last weekend of June with art, performances, food and storytelling.

The market opens with a smoking ceremony and traditional dance by cultural company Gawura Cultural Immersions. There will be 50 stallholders, including artworks from Minyma Kutjara Arts (WA), Durrmu Arts (NT) and Tjarlirli and Kaltukatjara Art (NT). And on the Sunday there’ll be performances from pop/jazz duet Microwave Jenny, Mimih Dancers from NT and Sydney band Stiff Gins (Nardi Simpson and Kaleena Briggs).

There’s also free activities for kids, such as dance and song workshops and sand painting; a communal weaving circle with remote and local weavers; a ticketed Ochre painting workshop; a children’s workshop with Indigenous artist and storyteller Amanda Reynolds to craft your own possum armband; and a new show room dedicated to exhibiting First Nations’ designed furniture, textiles, fabrics and homewares.

Entry is $2.50, and all proceeds go directly back to First Nations communities and artists. Children under five can enter free of charge.

The National Indigenous Art Fair runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday June 29 and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday June 30.
