Maybe Cocktail Festival 2023
When the group behind one of the best bars in Australia decides to throw a cocktail festival, you expect it to draw big names. And the Maybe Group – behind Maybe Sammy, Maybe Frank, Sammy Junior, Dean & Nancy on 22 and new Mexican joint El Primo Sanchez – is delivering.
For the very first Maybe Cocktail Festival, it’s invited a stellar line-up of international and Australian bars to Sydney for a series of takeovers and masterclasses. And the credentials are stacked.
Of the 16 international bars on the roster, 12 were on the most recent World’s 50 Best Bars list, while three were included in the 51–100 longlist. And the last is still considered one of England’s top bars.
Sip cocktails from the likes of Miami’s Sweet Liberty; Tres Monos in Buenos Aires; BKK Social Club from Bangkok; Singapore’s Jigger & Pony; Bar Nouveau in Paris; Hanky Panky from Mexico City; Rome’s Drink Kong; Bar Termini in London; Barcelona’s Sips; and many more.
Top Aussie bars are joining in on the fun, too – the teams from Sydney’s Re–, PS40 and Cantina Ok! are on board, alongside Byrdi, Caretaker’s Cottage and Above Board from Melbourne. All six are coming together for one special session at the Lady Hampshire.
The takeovers are being hosted at venues by the Maybe Group as well as by Public Hospitality (the Lady Hampshire, the Norfolk Hotel, Oxford House). Masterclasses with five of the international bars are also being held at Carriageworks.
Guest shifts will run for roughly three hours each, with four signature cocktails available to purchase during that time; no other cocktails can be ordered. Every cocktail at the festival will cost $22. Entry to each event is free, but you’ll need to pre-purchase drink tokens at the door and exchange them for your cocktail at the bar (payment at the bar will not be accepted).
Bookings can’t be made in advance, so rock up early if you want to get in.
