Masters of Modern Sound
Masters of Modern Sound, part of Sydney Festival 2019, is an after-dark event that weaves a new audio layer into the Masters of Modern Art from the Hermitage exhibition.
The experience will bring live music, dance and design into the gallery’s wings, filling the space with sounds that respond directly to the exhibition and the architecture of the gallery they sit in.
Commissioned works include the sound designs of Emmy Award-winning composer Dean Hurley (Twin Peaks) and Aussie trio Corin Ileto, Becky Sui Zhen and Casey Hartnett. Their compositions, performed live, will accompany you as you wander from Monet to Kandinsky, Cézanne to Picasso.
Brisbane-based composer, artist and curator Lawrence English will join avant-garde Los Angeles-based composer William Basinski to showcase their new collaborative album, Selva Oscura. Berlin-based Italian composer Caterina Barbieri will also perform her new and critically acclaimed Born Again in Voltage live in an Australian first.
Local Sydney talents are also on the line-up; expect the experimental electronic sounds of solo artist Del Lumanta, and meditative piano pieces by Christopher Abrahams.
Dance company Force Majeure will perform original movements in tandem with the audio and visual works. Their dances will convene with the sights and sounds in the gallery, adding up to a night of truly immersive experiences.
Wine, beer and delicious finger food will be designed by Chiswick at the Gallery head chef Tim Brindley.
Starts at 8pm.
