Cold days are starting to rear their heads in Sydney, really driving home the fact that we couldn't be any further away from the sunny Mediterranean if we tried. Milsons Point restaurant Altum is helping us combat the cold by transporting us to the Med (at least in spirit) with its Mare Nostrum dinner series.
Mare nostrum means “our sea” in Latin, which is how the ancient Romans referred to the Mediterranean. Altum’s head chef, Sicilian-born Dionisio Randazzo, is picking a different Mediterranean region each month from now until September (May is the south of France). Every Thursday night he'll be serving a three-course set menu dedicated to the food of that particular area.
From southern Europe to North Africa to the Levant, diners will eat their way around the sparkling sea without having to splash out on an expensive plane ticket. A special wine list – with plenty of by-the-glass options – pertaining to each region has also been put together to accompany the meals.
