La Clique at Sydney Opera House
Twenty years ago, homegrown cabaret production La Clique opened in Australia. In the two decades since, it’s had 54 sell-out seasons across Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania – with no signs of slowing down. And to celebrate 20 years, it’s putting on a special anniversary act at Sydney Opera House.
This celebration of La Clique and all its iterations brings together fan favourites from previous programs with new acts from the next generation of performers.
British performer Ursula Martinez brings her magical signature act to the stage, while circus artist Lj Marles makes his Australian debut with an act that defies both gravity and gender. Tara Boom, who calls herself Australia’s “problem child of cabaret” is hula-hooping and foot-juggling her way around the stage. Mario, Queen of the Circus (their official act name) will be juggling alongside Heather Holliday’s fire-breathing and sword-swallowing. Multidisciplinary artist David Pereira flies high with his aerial silks (and shaving cream), while straps artist Tuedon Ariri makies her La Clique debut. And Mirko Köckenberger toasts the production’s 20 years with a champagne hand-balance routine.
