Catch a comedy-drama featuring Korea’s top names; Parasite star Cho Yeo-jeong’s provocative mystery-thriller; a romantic love story conveyed through sign language; and more.

The Korean Film Festival in Australia (KOFFIA) returns this year, bringing a line-up of 10 films to Sydney, followed by a nation-wide tour program offering free film screenings in six regional cities including Benalla, Toowoomba, Alice Springs and Victor Harbor.

The festival will open with Hear Me: Our Summer, a Korean remake of the original 2009 Taiwanese romantic drama. The story follows a delivery worker who falls in love with a deaf swimmer, community their connection through sign language.

The program will also feature six films exclusive to Sydney. Among the line-up is Hidden Face, a remake of the 2011 Columbian film of the same name. Starring Oscar-winning star Cho Yeo-jeong (Parasite) and television star Song Seung-heon, it’s a provocative mystery-thriller about the disappearance of a classical music conductor’s fiancee. Longtime fans of Korean cinema can catch a 4K restoration of international spy-thriller hit Shiri.

Catch an offbeat tale about a struggling children’s book author and her new gig as a ghostwriter in the world of internet erotica through Forbidden Fairytale; Secret: Untold Melody, featuring K-Pop star Doh Kyung-soo of EXO fame; and comedy-drama About Family, staring top actors Kim Yoon-seok and Lee Seung-gi, which follows the plot of a chef whose life is turned upside-down when a group of children enter his restaurant claiming to be his grandchildren.

There’ll also be post-screening Q&As in Sydney with directors Jo Seon-ho (Hear Me: Our Summer), Kim Dae-woo (Hidden Face), Yang Woo-seok (About Family) and Lee Lu-da, along with actor Gyeong Su-jin (The Noisy Mansion).
