Leap into the future of food and design at two thought-provoking talks hosted by Ikea as part of the Vivid festivities.

As part of the Vivid festivities, Ikea will be co-hosting two events on May 31 to examine the future of food and design.

The first discussion kicks off at 9am. Moderator and journalist Paula Joye and panelists Ivana Frost (country food manager at Ikea), Amanda Kane (manager of organics at the NSW Environment Protection Agency) and Sarah Pennell (general manger of not-for-profit Foodbank) will discuss how food consumption will change in future, when huge increases in population create complex food challenges. They’ll look into the ideas and technologies being developed to mitigate food shortages and minimise food waste, and offer tips on how to reduce food waste at home.

The second talk, at 12.30pm, will examine how design affects our homes, neighbourhoods and communities. Joye will also play host for this second round, joined this time by Thea Brejzek (professor of spatial theory at UTS) and Tiffany Buckins (head of interior design at Ikea Australia). They’ll discuss the potential of open source architecture, how adaptive local communities are created, what future communities might look like and what items we might expect to see in our homes in the coming years.
