After a bumper Melbourne Huge Moves 7 in March, the fun, delicious and informative lo-fi wine party returns to its hometown this May, taking over two levels of the Ace Hotel.
Huge Moves is presented by two of Sydney’s leading purveyors of natural vino, Joel Amos of booze retailer Drnks and James Hird, Icebergs sommelier and co-founder of the legendary Rootstock Sydney Festival.
As usual, it’ll bring together producers, growers and importers of some of the best natural wine from Australia and abroad. This time round, there’ll be over 35 winemakers, producers and distributors, so you can expect lots and lots of tastings – over 100, in fact.
Just like Rootstock and Amos’s other events, Wet Dreams, Mental Notes and Loose Lips, it’s all about creating community for people who appreciate minimal-intervention drinks. Some of the headliners include Dr Edge, Fin Wines, Italian Plastic, Alpha Box & Dice and Vins du Liban. Plus, Melbourne’s zero-booze brand Tina will be making an appearance.
Upping the snack game is a curated menu from Loam, the hotel’s ground floor restaurant. There’ll be a Yamba prawn roll, a sanga stuffed with LP’s mortadella, cheese by the Studd Siblings and plenty of local oysters.
There is only one session, from 12pm to 3pm, and tickets ($60) are limited. You’ll be able to buy bottles to take home – plus, book a night at Ace with the code HMOVES for an exclusive rate (valid on the Friday night too, if you want to make a weekender out of it).
