Huge Moves 5
After a successful, sold-out Melbourne Huge Moves in March, the fun, delicious and informative lo-fi wine party returns to its hometown this August, taking over two levels of the Ace Hotel – its first event in the swish Surry Hills digs.
Huge Moves is presented by two of Sydney’s leading purveyors of natural vino, Joel Amos of booze retailer Drnks and James Hird, Icebergs sommelier and co-founder of the legendary Rootstock Sydney Festival.
As usual, it’ll bring together producers, growers and importers of some of the best natural wine from Australia and abroad. This time round, there’ll be over 35 winemakers, producers and distributors, so you can expect lots and lots of tastings – over 100, in fact.
Just like Rootstock and Amos’s other events, Wet Dreams, Mental Notes and Loose Lips, it’s all about creating community for people who appreciate minimal-intervention drinks. Some of the headliners include Benson & the Mooch, Dirty Black Denim, Konpira Maru and Smallfry. Plus, Melbourne’s zero-booze brand Tina will be making an appearance, as will Wildflower Brewing & Blending and Crooked Tooth.
Upping the snack game is a curated menu from Loam, the hotel’s ground floor restaurant. There’ll be lobster rolls and manchego crostini, plus red-hot buffalo cauliflower popcorn with ranch to dip. Everyone’s favourite Aussie chip maker Chappy’s will be doing tastings, too.
There is only one session, from 12pm to 4pm, and tickets ($60) are limited. You’ll be able to buy any bottles you like to take home – plus, book a night at Ace with the code HUGEMOVES for an exclusive rate.
