Hidden at Rookwood Cemetery
An unconventional sculpture walk invites you to explore the gardens and graves in the oldest section of Rookwood Cemetery. Located in Lidcombe, in Sydney’s west, it’s the oldest, largest and most multicultural cemetery in Australia; there are more than 130 culturally specific and non-denominational lawns.
Strategically placed among historic monuments and impressive architecture, you’ll encounter site-specific sculptural works created by more than 55 artists.
Curated by well-known artist, researcher and writer, Dr Kath Fries, the exhibition has been designed to provoke discussion, reflection and different perspectives about the passage of time, cycles of life, rituals, love, loss and our interconnection with memories.
The program also includes tours with Dr Fries, short film screenings, a family picnic day, interpretive dance performances, photography and videography workshops, and more.
Entry is free. Rookwood Cemetery is open from sunrise to sunset.
