Take a seat at the Surry Hills restaurant for a seven-course menu inspired by chef Connor Denton's childhood memories from bushwalks and fishing to his first hotpot.

Surry Hills restaurant Arthur is putting its chef de partie Connor Denton in charge for a pop-up two-day dinner dubbed Heirloom.

Fuelled with nostalgia, Denton’s menu features seven courses inspired by his own childhood memories: bushwalks, his first hot pot, fishing from the river and nights in front of the TV.

There’ll be seafood favourites including ocean trout with geraldton wax and native seaweed and king prawns with lemon myrtle and garlic aioli. Plus, Australian classics with a twist such as lamb rump coated in smoked black garlic mustard and cumin coffee rub and coconut and nuoc cham glazed kangaroo wrapped in betel leaves. To finish there’s chocolate and peanut semifreddo with wattleseed cream. Pair dishes with curated drinks and fresh oysters throughout the night.

“Some of the dishes are very literal. Tomato, cheese, toasted bread – one doesn’t have to read between the lines to find the memory. In all likelihood, you have it too,” Denton says. “Others are more ethereal. How do you capture the essence of a bushwalk in a dish?”

Using exclusively Australian ingredients, the chef will combine influences from his time at Hello Auntie, Restaurant Leo and Nomad to draw diners back to personal memories from their own life, too.

“We all have our own little heirlooms. Tastes and flavours we associate with happy times gone by. I hope to unearth those memories in the people who come to eat.”

Tickets cost $110 per person.

Limited seating available for 6pm and 8:30pm seating times across both nights. Bookings essential.
