Head On Photo Festival: Bondi Beach Exhibition
In its 11th year, Australia’s leading photography festival was rechristened the Head On(line) Photo Festival.
It went completely virtual in May because of coronavirus, giving us the chance to explore more than 180 thought-provoking exhibitions from Aussie and international photo-artists online.
But from July 4, the first of a series of a physical events kicks off with a free open-air exhibition along the promenade at Bondi. The topics explored include the urgency of climate change, the destruction of our natural environment, and underwater photography.
Highlights include Aussie photographer Matt Smith’s Untitled, which uses underwater photography to showcase the diverse marine life from Bondi Beach and the surrounding coastline; Ian Bickerstaff’s Sanctuary, which zooms in on the relationships forged between orphaned primates and their carers at a rehab centre in Cameroon; and Roger Hanley’s Margin Walker, which examines the relationship between landscape, dreams and perception.
