The mammoth Ultra Football warehouse in Alexandria is, unusually, home to Neapolitan pizzeria Zona Azzuri. And every Wednesday, its Naples-imported pizza oven will be churning out as many pies as you can eat.
There are nine on the menu, including red-sauce options such as spicy sopressa, fior di latte and basil; eggplant, fior di latte and basil; and a classic margherita. The sugo-less pizzas include a cacio e pepe with pecorino, scamorza, mozzarella and cracked pepper; a sausage-and-potato with truffle oil and rosemary; and one with olive pate, hot salami, mushrooms and fior di latte.
The pizza here doesn't make you feel heavy because the dough is proven for 72 hours, which yields a delicate, crisp base that has a light, airy structure. They are then slid in a two-tonne pizza oven shipped from Naples that cooks a pie in a matter of minutes.
Giro Pizza Wednesdays coincides with Zona’s daily happy hour, from 5pm to 7pm, when you can get $10 Negronis and Aperol Spritzes, and $8 Italian beer and wine.
From 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
