Dine Out: Masterchef Dream – Some of Ogni’s Dream Dishes

When Rashedul “Rashie” Hasan and Sarah Tiong met in the Masterchef audition room in 2016, they each recognised the other as kindred spirits. Seven years later, they teamed up to open Ogni in Sydney’s Surry Hills. The intimate 30-seater diner draws on Hasan’s Bangladeshi background and Tiong’s Chinese-Malaysian heritage.

As part of Dine Out, the pair has created a bespoke set menu that draws on their personal experiences. The menu – which includes takes on plates they originally cooked on the show – will be available for two nights.

Expect scallops with lemon aspen and pandan and a kangaroo boti kabab taco served with pink peppercorn raita. Heartier dishes include a barley and macadamia porridge served with chili oil and rempah (a Malay spice blend) as well as a junglee maas lamb shoulder with pops of desert lime. The menu finishes with a sticky date roti served with smoked ice cream and Davidson plum jam.

Tiong and Hasan will step out from the kitchen each night to speak to guests, share memories of their time on Masterchef, and answer any questions.
